The magnitude 7.9 earthquake, Nepal’s biggest for 80 years.

A deadly earthquake in central Nepal has killed nearly 5,000 people and counting, making it the country’s worst earthquake disaster in over 80 years. The Government of Nepal states that the death toll is likely to reach 10,000 by the end of the week.

Over 8,000 people are injured and this number is likely to increase. 1.6 million people are homeless. Many people are missing and trapped under rubble. International rescue teams are on the ground fighting to save lives.

We are working to raise money for Muslim Aid to establish a camp for 825 displaced individuals (165 families). They will be housed in tents, have access to toilets, showers, kitchens and educational facilities. They will also be given food, water and clothes.

The camp will have:

41 toilets and showers
33 kitchens
10 classrooms for education

With the death toll set to rise, the situation is critical. Muslim Aid has teams on the ground assessing the situation.
